Like a Tea-tray in the Sky

Like a rainbow vomited on a teapot!

Some kind of bizarre doodle of a teapot from 5am the while the boyfriend was keeping me awake and I had forgotten my damn earplugs. Was probably thinking of this:

I also made several other stupid teapot designs with a playing-card colour scheme. Fucking disney disturbing my sleep again.

Once Upon a Time

For my weekly cheesy fairytale fix I am loving this

Not quite as monstrous as The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales (pantheon edition) where your favourite childhood classics involve bloody mutilation and blatent racism.

I'm liking how they manage to incorperate a disneyed sort of element of happy endings and true love into Once Upon a Time. The Brothers Grimm can get a little bit too grim for me sometimes and the alternate fairytale world in the tv series looks so colourful and interesting, somewhere you would actually like to escape to instead of a land populated by rapists, racists, misogynists and paedo wolves like in the original tales.

Just your friendly neighbourhood gargoyle

Find myself more and more fascinated by the bizarre creatures you find on old churches and the like. I like to think of them as a gateway between reality and fantasy, an echo back to pre-christian britain, where all the really good stories come from. Plus they keep all that pesky rainwater off the damn roof!Sketch done with biro, pencil, sharpie, washable felt-tips and collage.
From when me and the boyfriend had a picnic at Birmingham Cathedral. We sat in the sunshine and I drew this with felt-tips and biro. Feeling the colour green at the moment.

This is where my evil lair is situated

This is this first painting I did after two years of being at uni doing an art degree. It's the back of my house painted from the back yard. It looks a bit grim, but it was a fresh sunny day and it made me feel good to finally be doing something.

Where the wounds are

Every shimmer you get on your skin
And let every whisper come rushing back in
And pick up the stitches and start to mend
Love pierces through even death in the end

My Little Pony

Being the awesomest little sister ever, I decided to make this cute little 80's style My Little Pony card for my elder sibling's 25th birthday (I figure she likes random nostalgic stuff like that sometimes)

I did it in a mostly vectorised style using coloured paper and glittery card and added a couple of details with ballpoint pen because they were too tiny to cut out card bits for it and the pony looked creepy with no eyes.
During my research, I had to pour through some of the worst animation my poor eyeballs have witnessed in a while...
I'll say it again: thanks, internet.

There is a Place...

"The electricity is on a 50p metre. When it goes out sometimes you lie in bed by candlelight and talk about places when you were young, haunted places where you'd seen the other side."

Laura Oldfield Ford, Savage Messiah, Walsall special from the free exhibition There is a Place... at the New Art Gallery, Walsall where I was lucky enough to attend the private view with a friend. Found the zine that Laura Oldfield Ford produced while searching though my sketchbooks in my bedroom. Felt touched by these words.

OH MY GOD LOOK AT THIS GIANT MOTH!

I have an unreasonable phobia of moths...AND THIS MOTHERFUCKER HAS A WINGSPAN OF 20CM AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Easily the worst thing I have seen all week. Thanks internet

Continuous as the stars that shine and twinkle on the Milky Way

Made me happy to open my curtains.

Hard hitting daffodil facts that I did not know until I read about them on the almightly truth that is Wikipedia:

1. They are poisonous
2. They are used to make drugs to combat alzheimers
3. They symbollise wealth and good fortune in some eastern cultures and are associated with Chinese New Year.
4. They symbollise vanity in the west. Or Easter. Or Wales. Or Unrequited Love. I'm not entirely sure.

Based on the academic assumption that wikipedia is made up of horrible unfounded rumours and baby seal clubbers I'm just going to stick with "they made me happy this morning"

Rue Des Cascades

Much love to be had for Yann Tiersen. When I play piano I pretend I'm a hybrid of him and Amanda Palmer. The reality is not quite so grand, but a girl can still dream.
